Formby Sunsets

One of the special characteristics of Formby is its 180 degrees horizon. No matter which way residents look, the skyline is essentially flat. Obviously trees and houses do intrude but only in a limited way.

It means all can share those special moments when nature treats us to glorious sunsets. Here's an example from my back garden this evening.

Formby Books Opens

I'm delighted to report that Formby once again has a book shop in the village. Tony Higginson, who managed Pritchards, has started his own venture, Formby Books. He is joined by former colleagues and they are now based in Derbyshires, right at the heart of the village.

John Boyne will officially open the shop at 4pm today . Good luck to all involved. I urge local residents and visitor alike to support this important new local venture.

One final point Formby Books also boasts a web site, please have a look. In my experience it's quicker than any other Online book shop, there's no postage charges if you collect from the shop and you get a discount too!

Formby: Whither the Future?

I  came across this online video this morning. It seems right to make it available here for local readers of this blog. Regular visitors will know of my concern about Peak Oil and the need to prepare for the coming changes. When I was a Parish Councillor I suggested to colleagues that our 'Parish Plan' needs to support a 'Transition Town' group. I still hope that will come about, but by way of further explanation, have a look at the following: 'Whither the future for Formby?'

Google and Formby

I occasionally write stories about 'Digital Formby' so I thought I'd pass on this invitation I've just received from Google.

Did you know that Google is coming to Liverpool?

Google is partnering with organisations across Merseyside to provide a programme of free sessions and events designed to help small businesses get online or maximise their online potential. There are interactive group workshops and one-to-one 40 minute Google Juice Bar sessions with a Google expert to help you and your business make the most of all the opportunities Google has to offer.

To book your place visit http://www.gbbo.co.uk/liverpool Google is also offering a toolkit of free online resources through http://www.gbbo.co.uk/ These include business tips, tutorials, and a free URL for your business!

I have often commented on those local businesses or organisations that combine traditional  business practices with the newer Internet based tools. This looks like a very useful opportunity.

Formby Parish Council

By my calculation Formby Parish Council recommences it's monthly cycle of meetings tonight. Meetings are normally held on the 1st Tuesday evening of every month apart from the summer break in August.

Unfortunately the Parish Council website is not showing any information about an agenda, or the minutes of the last meeting or whether there is to be a meeting.

If there is a meeting, it will be at 7.00pm in Formby Library and members of the public should be able to participate at a 'public forum' item which occurs early on in the evening.
