Thornton To Switch Island Link

The proposed Thornton to Switch Island Link road has taken a major step forward after vital legal notices were issued for the scheme. 

Sefton Council has now published a Side Roads Order and Compulsory Purchase Order for the much-anticipated bypass.

This follows a lengthy process to resolve legal and technical issues involving sections of land along the proposed link road route.

Notices have now been sent to individuals potentially affected by the scheme, published in the local press and posted on site. People have until August 31 to respond to the Department for Transport about the orders.

Road Traffic Accident At Tesco Roundabout

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service have just published the following Press Release:

Tuesday, 19 June 2012
Altcar Road, Formby.
Firefighters freed an elderly woman following a car crash.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called at 10.34am on Tuesday, June 19, to Altcar Road, Formby.

When firefighters arrived they found a woman trapped in the car. They used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the car door to release the woman. The lady, who was conscious and breathing, was released by 10.50am.

Firefighters also made the vehicle safe. The car had collided with a bollard.

The 78-year-old woman was taken to Southport and Formby District General Hospital. It is understood she was suffering from shock.

An appliance from Formby Community Fire Station attended the call-out.

I have noticed that when a major incident occurs or an item of breaking news applies specifically to Formby then this web site gets a lot more visits and page views.

When these events occur I use the Twitter stream associated with this site: Twitter.com/formbyvillage . It is quicker to update readers and draw on other sources of information than try constantly keep the blog up-to-date. The Twitter stream is available at the top of the right-hand column on the front page of the blog.

I hope that helps when Formby residents are trying to keep abreast of any breaking news that may affect the community.

I'm sure all of us are thinking of those affected by the fatal accident on the Formby Bypass yesterday and offer our sincere condolences.

Meanwhile Merseyside Police have made the following appeal:

“Merseyside Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a fatal road traffic collision in Ince Blundell.

Officers were called to the south-bound carriageway of the A565 near the Ince Blundell public house shortly after 5pm by several members of the public.

Anyone who witnessed the incident and has yet to contact police should call the collision investigation department on 0151 777 5402 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
