Formby Parish Councillors were summoned to attend an extra ordinary meeting at Formby library this week.
The short agenda reveals some aspects of the issue before them.
Notice of Meeting
All members of the Council are hereby summoned to attend an Extra Ordinary Meeting of the Parish Council, which will be held at Formby Library, Duke Street, Formby, on Wednesday 13 September 2017, at 7.00pm.

3.0 Pursuant to section 1(2) of the Public Bodies (Admission to Meetings) Act 1960 it is resolved that, because of the confidential nature of the business to be transacted, the public and the press leave the meeting during consideration of whether the FPC wishes to employ legal counsel and to gain an understanding of the financial consequences and the firms involved.
4.0 To resolve whether to employ legal counsel in preparation for a potential Judicial Review
5.0 Date of Next Meeting – Tuesday 3 October 2017 to be held in the Meeting Room, Formby Library at 7pm
Members of the press and public are welcome to attend
By way of comment, in all my years of service as a Parish Councillor for both Little Altcar and Formby Parish Councils, I cannot recall this ever happening before, so I conclude, the matter is serious and potentially expensive. I note that agenda item 3 if agreed, was likely to exclude the public and press. It will be interesting to see if residents ever get to know anything about the subject matter that sparked this extra ordinary meeting and the outcome if any.
Whatever the cause it raises questions about transparency and accountability in Formby's most immediate level of local government.
